Built Around You — Not a Floor Plan Catalog

We’re not a production builder. We build custom homes designed around the owner’s lot, budget, and way of living. If you want a builder who answers the phone, explains the numbers, and treats your build like the only one that matters, you’re in the right place.

The Journey of Building

How a BDJ Custom Home Comes Together

  1. Discovery & Feasibility

We start with a conversation about your goals, timeline, and budget range. If you already own land, we evaluate it. If you don’t, we help you look before you buy — access, utilities, well and septic considerations, HOA design requirements, and true site-development factors.

  2. Lot & Site Planning

Prescott-area lots are rarely flat or simple. We assess grading and drainage, orientation for views and sun, utility runs, fire-wise defensible space, and buildability — so the plan reflects the real site, not a best case.

  3. Design Coordination

BDJ may coordinate with the homeowner’s architect or designer, and can discuss appropriate design resources on a case-by-case basis — keeping the design aligned with your budget as it develops, not after.

  4. Budget & Preconstruction

Before construction begins you’ll have a detailed budget, a realistic schedule, and clarity about allowances and selections. Depending on the project’s scope, design maturity, and risk profile, BDJ may use a fixed-price or cost-plus agreement. The contract structure is explained before work begins so the homeowner understands how costs, allowances, and changes will be handled.

  5. Construction

As your licensed Arizona general contractor, BDJ manages permits, inspections, trades, and quality on site. You get regular updates and a single point of contact — you’ll never wonder what’s happening on your own build.

  6. Completion & Beyond

We finish with a detailed walkthrough and an organized handoff of documents and systems. BDJ provides applicable workmanship warranty coverage on projects for which BDJ is the contracting builder or remodeler. Specific warranty terms are included in the construction agreement.

Every stage of your build is documented, inspected, and communicated — from the first stem wall to the final walkthrough.

Honest Numbers

What Shapes the Cost of a Custom Home?

The cost of a Prescott-area custom home depends on more than square footage. BDJ begins by understanding the property, plans, priorities, and desired level of finish before developing project-specific guidance.

  • The land itself

Lot conditions, grading, and rock excavation — high-desert sites are rarely simple.

  • Water & utilities

Wells, septic systems, and utility distances can change a budget before a wall goes up.

  • Design complexity

Architectural complexity and structural requirements shape cost as much as size does.

  • Finishes & materials

Finish selections and changing material costs affect the final investment — we keep them visible from day one.

Custom Home FAQs

How long does a custom build take?

Every project is different; timeline depends on design, permitting jurisdiction, and site conditions. We’ll give you a realistic schedule for your specific project during the consultation.

Can you help before I’ve bought land?

Yes — evaluating a lot before you commit to it is one of the most valuable things we do.

Where do you build?

BDJ Construction is focused on Prescott, Prescott Valley, and surrounding Yavapai County communities, including Chino Valley, Dewey-Humboldt, Williamson Valley, Paulden, Mayer, and Groom Creek. Selected projects within approximately a 1.5-hour travel area — including parts of the Phoenix metro — may also be considered.
